cPAX Info For Administrators
New reimbursement codes are not expected to be needed with cPAX embolization devices, as existing intracranial aneurysm (IA) coiling procedure codes will be applicable to cPAX.
cPAX can:
- Reduce inventory requirements in that only two (2) SKUs are anticipated for the cPAX embolization devices that will cover treatment of aneurysms - one SKU for aneurysms that are 3-7mm in size, and another SKU for aneurysms 8mm and larger.
- The cost of the polymeric cPAX strand compared to platinum coils can also lead to improved efficiencies and cost savings.
One private payor, Excellus BlueCross BlueShield, issued a medical policy for endovascular repair of intracranial aneurysms which states that based upon their assessment of the peer-reviewed literature, endovascular repair of intracranial aneurysms using coil embolization has been medically proven to be effective and is considered medically appropriate as an alternative to aneurysm clipping in the treatment of intracranial aneurysms.
Endovascular repair of wide-necked intracranial aneurysms using stent assisted embolic coiling is considered medically appropriate treatment for otherwise inoperable aneurysms, when performed in an institution with an endovascular neurosurgical team.
